My name is Melissa Dean and I am a birth doula. I am a mother of four children, ages 17, 16, 10 and 8. I have been attending births since 1997. Six years ago I chose to become a DONA certified doula. I am also a childbirth educator at Good Samaritan Hospital. I work in the greater Santa Clara County area and Redwood City. Including, but not limited to, the following hospitals, Good Samaritan, Los Gatos Community, El Camino, Kaiser, O’Connor, Stanford, Sequoia, and St. Louise.
In addition to providing standard doula services, such as advice with positioning, assistance with the stages of labor and when to go to the hospital, use of a birth ball, and massage, I also provide acupressure to augment and assist you during labor. I can also photograph your birth for you if you wish. (The photos on my web site were all taken by me.) In your post partum hours I will assist you with breastfeeding and new baby care. Included in my services are two prenatal visits and one post partum visit.
I enjoy providing each woman with education, support and encouragement as she embarks on her own journey into the birth of her child. My role is to support and encourage the laboring woman and her partner in their choices, as well as providing education on the risks and the benefits of each choice, helping to create the best possible birth experience.
The birth of each child creates a new family. My desire is to care for and support each family member to best encourage them in their role in the family. I consider it a privilege to be working in this capacity, and I would be honored to share this most miraculous day with you.
